Notice for Foreigners to Apply for Chinese Visa(Updated on 15th Feb 2024)

From 15th February 2024, the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia has updated the visa application requirements, applicants should follow the steps below to apply for visa : 

  Step 1: Prepare application documents as required (basic documents + other supporting documents)

  Step 2: visit https://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn website to fill the visa application form online

  Step 3: Bring all the documents to the embassy to apply for a visa during office hours and pay the fee as required

  Step 4: After the visa is produced, according to the time notified by the embassy, come to the embassy to collect the visa with the payment receipt

Specific requirements for each step

  1.Prepare application documents

  Please prepare visa application documents according to the following requirements:

  (One) Basic documents

  1.1 The applicants original and photocopy of the passport : least 6 months of remaining validity date and a blank page of passport, a photocopy of passport information page 

  1.2 Original and electronic version of photograph : provide original recent standard, front, color, bareheaded photograph, burn the electronic version of photograph to CD. 

  1.3 The proof of legal stay or residence status (only for third country citizen) : if you are not Mongolian nationality, need to provide valid legal stay, residence, employment or student status proof documents or original and a photocopy of valid visa. 

  1.4 The previous Chinese passport holder or original Chinese visa (applicable to foreign citizens those who were Chinese citizens and have obtained foreign citizenship) : if you are applying a Chinese visa for the first time you should provide original of previous Chinese passport and a photocopy of information page, If you have obtained Chinese visas before and want to apply for a Chinese visa with a renewed foreign passport that does not contain any Chinese visa, you should present the photocopy of the previous passport information page and the photocopy of previous visa as well, (If your name on the current passport differs from that on the previous one, you must provide an official document of name change).  

  1.5 Other supplementary documents that may be required by the embassy (please supplement according to the requirements of the embassy staff at that time)

M visa

F visa
Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and technology activitiesAn invitation letter issued by a trade partner or a relevant entity in China

S1 visa

Work visa (Z visa), long term   study visa (X1 visa) holder’s spouse, parents, children under age 18, parents   in law those who intend to go to China for long term (more than 180 days), those   who live with or visit relatives, and those who need to stay in China due to   other private affairs  

1. An invitation letter issued by foreigners residing in China

2. A photocopy of the inviting individual passport information   page and residence permit

3. Original and a   photocopy of proof certificate of relationship between inviting individual   and applicant  (marriage certificate, birth certificate, notarized certification   of kinship)

If inviting   individual who is going to China to work, long term study and applicant   applying visa at the same time :

1. A photocopy of   work and long term study visa applicants documents

2. The original   proof certificate of relationship between an applicant and work visa   applicant  (marriage certificate, birth certificate, notarized certification   of kinship etc)

3. A statement of   circumstances issued by the relevant organization

*For other private affairs,   relevant supporting documents must be provided upon request.

S2 visa

Family members of foreigners   who go to China for short term (not more than 180 days) visits to relatives   who stay in China for work, study, and those who need to stay in China for   other private affairs.

"Family members"   include: spouse, parents, children, spouse of children, sibling,   grandparents, grandchildren and parents in law

1.  An invitation letter   issued by foreigners residing in China

2.  A photocopy of the   inviting individual passport information page and residence permit or visa

3. A photocopy of   proof certificate of relationship between inviting individual and applicant    (marriage certificate, birth certificate etc)

*If the children above   age 18 and their spouses apply for a family visit is (S2) visa, in addition   to the above documents, they must also submit a corresponding statement of   circumstances as required by the consular officer.

*For other private   affairs, relevant supporting documents must be provided upon request.  

Q1 visa

Foreign family   member of Chinese citizen (more than 180 days) and family member of

foreigners with   permanent residence status in China.

*Family member include:   spouse, parents, parents in law, children, spouses of   children, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren

1.An invitation letter signed by a Chinese citizen or a foreign   citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China.

2. A photocopy of an inviting individual Chinese identity card (front and   back), or a photocopy of foreigners passport information page and permanent residence   permit in China (front and back)

3. The original and a photocopy proof certification of family   member relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate)

Q2 visa

Issued to those who intend to   go to China for a short period of time (not more than 180 days) to visit   relatives of Chinese citizens living in China and relatives of foreigners   with Chinese permanent residence status

1. An invitation   letter signed by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese   permanent residence permit who lives in China (Family relationship must be   stated in the invitation letter)

2. A photocopy of an inviting individual Chinese identity card (front and   back), or photocopy of foreigners passport information page and permanent residence   permit in China (front and back)

X1 visa

Issued to those who intend to   go to China for long term overseas study (more than 180 days)

1. College students submit the photocopy of Visa application for study in China (JW201 or JW202 form)

Primary and secondary school students submit Confirmation Form for Elementary Stage Students Study in China

2. Photocopy of admission letter

X2 visa

Issued to those who intend to   go to China for short term overseas study (Not more than 180 days)

Photocopy of admission letter

R visa

Issued to those who are high   level talents or whose skills urgently needed in China

An invitation letter of   Chinese government on high-level talents and individual with special skills

*Spouse and children under   age 18 need to submit proof of relationship certificate (marriage   certificate, birth certificate) apply for S2 visa 

 2. Fill the visa application form online 

  Visit https://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn website to fill the visa application form online. The filling language of the visa application online form only limited to English or Chinese (other languages are invalid). When filling out the online form, you must fill the relevant information correct, complete, truthful and upload your own photo. Anyone who is suspected of deliberately concealing or fabricating key information in the application form or uploading a photo that is not his own, will be deemed to have forged visa application documents once verified, and will lead to a series of consequences such as visa refusal. For the visa application form, please refer to the sample form in the attachment. After completing the online form, the applicant should print out the confirmation page and application form (full form), sign on the confirmation page and application page number 9.

  3 . Come to the embassy to apply for a visa during the office hours. The applicant should come to the embassy to apply for a visa during office hours, and pay the fee according to the requirements of the window after reviewing the documents.

4.After the visa is produced, the applicant should come to the embassy to collect the visa according to the notified time.

Precautions:

  1. The applicant should wait for the visa to be produced according to the notification time and come to the embassy to collect the visa. Do not come to the embassy to collect visa without communication in advance.

  2. For diplomatic passport holders and diplomatic, service, and courtesy visa applications, please contact the consular section of the embassy directly by email or telephone.
