On February 5, the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia held a donation ceremony to herders who were hit by dzud in Arkhangai and Dornod. Ambassador Shen Minjuan handed over the donation to B. Sanjmyamav, Deputy Governor of Arkhangai Province, and P. Bat-Ulzii, Director of the Office of Dornod Provincial Government. G. Ariunbuyan, Head of the National Emergency Management Agency, and Tapan Mishra, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mongolia were present.

Ambassador Shen said that China and Mongolia are good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers. We have a tradition of supporting each other in the face of disasters. The exchange of sheep and tea during COVID is a good example. The Chinese Embassy in Mongolia is highly concerned about the disaster in Mongolia this winter and is willing to provide assistance to a total of 100 families in urgent need in Arkhangai and Dornod to help them with the difficulties. China is also willing to strengthen capacity-building with Mongolia’s NEMA and other departments to enhance Mongolia’s disaster prevention capabilities.

Ambassador Shen said that climate change response and disaster prevention and reduction are the focus of cooperation between China and Mongolia. China's Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund has just launched its first project in Mongolia through the United Nations Development Program to provide forest fire-fighting equipment for Mongolia. The China-Mongolia Desertification Prevention and Control Cooperation Center was inaugurated in Ulaanbaatar in last September, which is a concrete measure taken by China to support Mongolia’s One Billion Trees campaign. China is willing to carry out more cooperation with Mongolia on climate change response to build of a community with a shared future.

Representatives of Arkhangai, Dornod, and NEMA stated that Mongolia has been hit hard by dzud since last year. It is highly appreciated that the Chinese Embassy lend hand in this urgent time. This demonstrates the profound traditional friendship between the two countries. The Mongolian side looks forward to learning more experience from China on disaster prevention and reduction.
