On February 3, 2024, the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia and the Overseas Chinese Association in Mongolia organized the 2024 New Year Gala for Overseas Chinese in Mongolia to celebrate the Spring Festival and Tsagaan Sar. Ambassador Shen Minjuan and more than 500 overseas Chinese in Mongolia, including representatives from the Embassy, the China Chamber of Commerce and Chinese-funded enterprises, the Confucius Institute, the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the Foreign Affairs Office, the Overseas Chinese Association in Mongolia, overseas Chinese schools and overseas Chinese associations, gathered together to celebrate the holidays.

Ambassador Shen delivered a warm New Year speech, elaborating on the Chinese modernization and achievements of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. She said that in the past year, China's economy has continued to rebound and improve, scientific and technological innovation continued to make breakthroughs, cooperation with other countries has been fruitful, and China's initiatives have been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. China-Mongolia relations have made great strides. The President and Prime Minister of Mongolia went to China for meetings and visits, and reached important consensus with Chinese leaders. Bilateral trade increased by nearly 30%, hitting a record high of nearly USD 17 billion. People traveling between the two countries have returned to the pre-epidemic level.

Ambassador Shen pointed out that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Mongolian parliamentary election year, and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mongolia, which are of vital importance to the development of the two countries and the relations. We must seize the opportunity and ride on the momentum to build a community with a shared future, promote the Belt and Road cooperation and bring China-Mongolia relations to a higher level. I hope that everyone will continue to care for the development of China, work as the bridge of the two countries, and contribute to the national development and friendship between the two countries.

Ambassador Shen emphasized that the reunification of the motherland is the common wish of all Chinese people around the world. We hoped that everyone will uphold the national justice, oppose all action that divide the country, and make the contribution of overseas Chinese to the reunification of the motherland.

Ambassador Shen presented Spring Festival packages to overseas Chinese and to 48 elderly, disabled overseas Chinese in need. She said that in the past year, the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia adhered diplomacy for the people and worked hard to safeguard the rights and interests of overseas Chinese in Mongolia. We will continue to solve problems and do practical things for overseas Chinese.

In his speech, Bai Shuangzhan, Chair of the Overseas Chinese Association, appreciated the embassy for its care for the overseas Chinese, saying that the overseas Chinese in Mongolia will continue to unite closely and serve as envoys of people-to-people friendship between China and Mongolia.

Five overseas Chinese organizations, including the Overseas Chinese Association in Mongolia and the Overseas Chinese School, sent New Year greetings to the people in China.

The gala was decorated with lanterns and colorful decorations. The Overseas Chinese School performed dragon dance, and the Nanjing Performing Arts Troupe presented exciting performances. The atmosphere was warm and cheerful.

At the event, Ambassador Shen was interviewed by Mongolian media, saying that this year the Chinese Spring Festival coincides with the Mongolian Tsgaan Sar, which adds to the festive atmosphere of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mongolia. Standing at a new historical starting point, China-Mongolia cooperation has great potential and will bring more benefits to the two peoples. It is hoped that overseas Chinese in Mongolia will make contributions in their respective fields and make new contributions to the development of China-Mongolia relations.

This gala is also part of the "Happy Chinese New Year" events carried out by the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia.
